EARS:
The multiplication of a given electric signal by itself allowing for very short delays (e.g., in ms) sequentially. This effect is associated with the notion of chorusing. (Source - Dictionnaire des arts médiatiques: http://www.dictionnairegram.org)
EARS2:
An effect that uses very short Delays (in ms) to create a cancellation effect when a delayed copy of a sound is added to the original audio stream. See Phase.
Flanging is an audio effect produced by duplicating an input signal, delaying the copy by a small and gradually changing time period, (usually smaller than 20 Millisecond (ms)) and then adding the duplicated signal back into the original input signal.
This makes Flanger similar to Chorus, yet the variation in signal produces so-called comb filter-like effects: peaks and notches are produced in the resultant frequency spectrum that are related to each other in a series that is associated with the sound's own spectrum (its 'Harmonics'). Varying the time delay causes these to sweep up and down the frequency spectrum.
